Lidocaine and Xylocaine®
Lidocaine HCl Injection, USP
Today's Preferred Local and Regional Anesthetic
Medical Practitioners from all specialties have preferred Lidocaine (Xylocaine) as their local or regional anesthetic of choice for various types of minor surgeries and procedures since it was introduced in 1949. Lidocaine that is administered parenterally by injection is fast acting (45 to 90 seconds) and produces a temporary loss of sensation for up to 20 minutes. An extended duration can be achieved by increasing the volume and concentration administered over time. Lidocaine HCL works by blocking the neural conduction of pain signals to the CNS, thereby effecting local anesthetic action. This commonly used anesthetic is available in Ampules, Single Dose, and Multi-dose vials.
